How To Develop a Successful Mindset for Job Hunting

Three methods to develop the optimal mindset for job seeking.

Today I’m talking to opportunity seekers who are actively seeking new employment. When starting the process, it is critical to have the right mindset. Without that, everything else that you do will be built on a weak foundation, even if you do it right. It’s not pointless to go about a job search without the right mindset, but you’re certainly going to have a whole lot more success if you have the optimal mindset.

The optimal mindset means having a positive framing about your career experiences and especially prior bosses and prior companies.

“You’re going to have a lot more success if you have the optimal mindset.”

You also need a proactive mindset. That means you shouldn’t just plan to apply for jobs and assume that will be the end of it. You need to take any extra steps you can in order to increase the odds that you get the initial conversations going.

Develop a pipeline mindset. Don’t just settle for one or two jobs that look ideal for you, apply to them, and call it a day. Find as many positions as you can that appeal to your criteria and apply to get interviews with all of them. You’ll navigate your interviews with a whole lot more confidence if you have a pipeline of other opportunities that you’re exploring at the same time rather than if you’re interviewing with just one companyeven if it’s your dream job.
