Here’s how you can effectively show employers you’re the best candidate.
How do you ensure companies see you as top talent? For people who are seeking opportunities, how you present yourself to prospective employers is crucial, both on your resume, in initial interviews, and even when you’re talking on the phone.
Nowadays, it’s not enough to simply say you have relevant experience. Companies are trying to hire the best of the best. And while they’ve always been trying to do that, there’s a difference in supply and demand. Right now, companies focus more on someone’s track record and accomplishments.
The most obvious way people can articulate this has to do with clearly showing the following:
- Quota percentage or attainment
- Sales for a certain period
- Ranking on the team
- Specific deals or specific customers, especially net new customers
For example, if you’re in tech sales, showing your track record of success using the metrics above will show the company that you are indeed the best person for the role you’re filling. Make sure to try to present your track record both in written form and in verbal form.
“Right now, companies focus more on someone’s track record and accomplishments.”
It’s also an added point for you if, instead of simply saying, “I have experience calling on this type of customer,” you can quantify your success. Highlight net new customer achievements in white space by saying, “I took over white space, and here’s what I did with that white space.” But keep in mind that selling $2.5 million in an area with existing customers is not as impressive as selling $500,000 in a new market.
These are the kinds of things that you want to ideally communicate, both in your conversations, your resume, and in your written outreach. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
